Anne-Sophie Mutter plays Witold Lutosławski - 17 05 2004

This was a concert commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of Witold Lutosławski and it was quite an electrifying experience. Mutter's mastery of the music and the rich sound of her violin leave no doubts as to the quality of the performance and the soloist. Fortunately, Antoni Wit and the sometimes belamented (by me, anyway) National Philharmonic stood up to the task to accompany the violinist.

These works defy the stereotype that modern music is inaccessible to the listener and jarring to the ear.
The three pieces were played without applause, forming a sort of concerto suite with the ambiental Interlude in the middle.
At the end of her performance, Anne-Sophie Mutter held up the score to pay homage to the composer.

The Partita should be indexed into Ad libitum and A battuta sections, but this was lost in the production process...
This is not the complete concert, as I was interested only in Anne-Sophie Mutter's performance of Lutosławski.

In the second half of the concert Antoni Wit provided a rather lame interpretation of Mozart's "Jupiter" symphony, followed by Messiaen's Un sourire and concluded with Debussy's Prelude a L'apres-midi d'un faune.

The set list:
Witold Lutosławski (1913-1994)
Partita for Violin and Orchestra
Interludium
Chain 2

Live FM broadcast, Polish Radio Program 2.

This is the same concert I uploaded on this blog a while back. It took me some time to get back to restoring the blog after the powers that be fried the old links.
